Eye On AlumniWhere Are They Now?Past Chancellor Bill Richard
Brother Bill Richard served as Chancellor of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity from 1977-1979. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Education at The Ohio State University in 1959 and completed his Juris Doctor at Cleveland-Marshall Law School in 1967.
Since that time, Brother Richard served as a successful trial attorney and a part-time arbitrator in Ohio until retiring in 1983. Upon his retirement, he began arbitrating cases full-time and also traded the lake-effect snow of Ohio for the sun and sand of Florida. He has heard more than 1000 cases during the 43 years he has served as an arbitrator, with more than 250 of his decisions ["reasoned awards"] being published by the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. (BNA) Labor Arbitration Reports, CCH Labor Arbitration Awards, and the LRP's Arbitration Database. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association, Society of Federal Labor & Employee Relations Professionals, the Cleveland Bar Association and several other professional organizations.
Additionally, Brother Richard has received several awards and honors for his distinguished service including Honorary Citizen/Keys to the City for five different localities: Pittsburgh, PA (1963); Lubbock, TX (1969); Miami Beach, FL (1971); New Orleans, LA (1974); and Memphis, TN (1975). As a member of Delta Theta Phi, Brother Richard was named "Man of the Year" in 1976, was awarded the Diamond Crowned Badge in 1980 and has received numerous other awards for his commitment and dedication to the Fraternity.
And Where Is Past Chancellor Richard Now? Brother Richard can be found arbitrating full-time for Labor, Construction, Securities, and International disputes. He has traveled to hear cases everywhere from Panama to Niagara Falls; the U.S. Virgin Islands to Austin, TX; Allentown, PA to Chicago, IL; and in scattered European cities. In 2009, he was appointed as a Special Magistrate for the State of Florida, hearing cases involving public employers. In what Brother Richard describes as his "almost non-existent spare time," he paints and sells a limited number of water colors and travels Europe. The ever-proud father also visits as many of his nine children and step-children (and eight grandchildren) as he can and illuminates while he shares stories of their accomplishments, including his oldest step-daughter, Alice Ripley, who won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Broadway Musical. Retired? Not really, but almost certainly enjoying every moment of it! |
